OUR PORTRAIT WORK IN TEXAS

East Texas has become a favorite place of ours to create our signature portraits. The reception from the citizens of Tyler as well as the city officials was better than we could have ever imagined.  The City of Tyler recognized David's visit to East Texas by presenting him with a key to the city and declaring May 12, 2014 as David Stevenson Day in Tyler.

It is our plan to return to Texas on a yearly basis.  Our next visit is scheduled for April of 2017.

THE CREATION OF A PORTRAIT

Having your portrait created is a unique and creative undertaking.  We use our experience and talent to make your portrait a one of a kind original.  As a work of art, we want  you to display it with pride knowing that it expresses something special to you, your family and all who view it, now and in the future. Following are some helpful suggestions to guide you in the portrait creation process.

WARDROBE
Clothing is one of the essential ingredients contributing to the final look and style of your portrait.  Your choices should be classic and very simple in order to stand the test of time.  It is important to avoid eye-catching patterns, colors and prints.  Simple all white or pastels work especially well for our Heirloom Portraits and Black and White Gallery Portraits.  The idea is to make you or your children stand out in the portrait, not the wardrobe.  As a rule of thumb, three-quarter length or long sleeves work best for both ladies and men.  The use of like or complimentary colors can make a large group blend together and create a feeling of family or togetherness.  Ideally, no one person should stand out due to color or color style.

GLASSES
Glasses can distort the eyes of the subject due to their reflective and magnifying characteristics.  A good way to solve this problem is either not to wear them or have your optician supply you with a similar frame as your own, but without lenses.  Contact lenses present no problem.

PROPS
You do not necessarily need props to make a portrait powerful, but sometimes they can contribute to make a portrait more personal.  They can suggest a story, or a theme that is meaningful to the family.  If you would like to use props such as your childs favorite teddy bear, doll, pet, etc., please bring them along on the day of the shoot.  We would love to incorporate them into your portrait to make it truly special.  Please do not hesitate to ask regarding any idea you may have.  We encourage your creativity and personal inspiration.

OUR RATES AND FEES

The final cost of the portrait will reflect two basic charges: the portrait shoot and the cost of the prints.  The portrait shoot fee includes the time and expense incurred in photographing the subject.  A photography shoot can typically last one to one and a half hours and may run slightly shorter or longer,  depending on a variety of factors.  We have found young children have a built-in time constraint; therefore, these shoots do not run as long.

PORTRAIT SHOOT FEES (Texas/Arkansas)

The portrait shoot fee is a separate charge and is not applied toward the prints.  It is paid in advance of the shoot in order to reserve studio time.

Individual and Group Studio Portraits: $200
Multiple Individual Studio Portraits (in same family photographed at the same time): $200
Location Portraits: (at the lake, park, or your home): $300

HEIRLOOM PORTRAITS RATES

Our Heirloom Portraits are the most enduring and striking finish we offer.  They are recognized primarily by the soft, artistic look.  This is achieved as David transforms an ordinary photograph into a true masterpiece.  The finish captures the essence and feel of a painting and the realism of a photograph.  All Heirloom Portraits are printed on cotton rag textured paper (archival and acid free) and backed and matted to museum standards.  David's Cotton Rag Heirloom Portraits are produced on state of the art printers using pigmented inks on coated archival rag paper.  These Cotton Rag prints are considered to be the standard of the world's best museums.

BLACK AND WHITE GALLERY PORTRAIT RATES

Our Black and White Gallery Portraits have been and continue to be the exhibition standard for the photographic arts.  They render the full spectrum of the gray scale with deep blacks and brilliant whites.  These portraits are printed on cotton rag textured paper (archival and acid free) and backed and matted to museum standards.  All Black and White Gallery Portraits are printed on cotton rag textured paper (archival and acid free) and backed and matted to museum standards.  David's Cotton Rag Heirloom Portraits are produced on state of the art printers using pigmented inks on coated archival rag paper.  These Cotton Rag prints are considered to be the standard of the world's best museums.

ORDERING PROCESS

After your portrait shoot, we will schedule an appointment (approximately one to two hours) for you to view your images and place your order at that time.  This appointment may take place in your home, business, or location of your choice where you will be shown a selection of images specially chosen by David.  David and Lana will personally help you in the selection process and explain all the options available.  We offer desk and wall-sized portraits as well as albums.  Due to the custom nature of our work, you can expect to receive your finished portrait order within three to four weeks.

You may select your portraits from two different finishes:  Heirloom Portraits or Black and White Gallery Portraits.  All portrait prices include custom matting, retouching, and cropping if applicable.  To achieve the desired artistic effect, David completes all post processing in-house by using a variety of techniques he has mastered over the past thirty years.  These include, but are not limited to: conversion to black & white, toned portraits, and various softening effects.
