I have been creating portraits for more than 40 years. One of my favorite styles is lo-key portraiture. For me it began during my early years, when film was king and digital was’t even a thought for a serious photographer — and studio darkrooms were the norm.
Low-key lighting has greater contrast between the dark and light areas of the image with a majority of the tones darker in nature.
Here’s some of my favorite lo-key portraits —some very recent and some from years gone by.
